Before I started studying literature I didn't know too much about Ralph Waldo Emerson but I always loved his quotes. Now that I have to read some of his works I realized that his writing is so different from what I expected. Some of the things he says I completely disagree with, such as this:

Travelling is a fool's paradise. Our first journeys discover to us the indifference of places. At home I dream that at Naples, at Rome, I can be intoxicated with beauty, and lose my sadness. I pack my trunk, embrace my friends, embark on the sea, and at last wake up in Naples, and there beside me is the stern fact, the sad self, unrelenting, identical, that I fled from. I seek the Vatican, and the palaces. I affect to be intoxicated with sights and suggestions, but I am not intoxicated. My giant goes with me wherever I go.

 -Self-Reliance 

Maybe you do have the same problems you had no matter where you travel, but the sights you see make it well worth the trip. Speaking of travelling and trips here are pictures from my latest trip, last weekend, to Slovenia.

The trip was really fun, and I really enjoyed seeing so many places. Lake Bled was one of the most beautiful lakes I have seen in my life. 

The next trip is already being planned... Can't wait!

Dear future me,
Are you reading this whilst you are happy?
God, I hope you're happy.
You've been through so much, are you even still around to read this?
God, I hope you are.
Pain is never easy, is it? Relationship breakdowns, heartache, emotional and mental trauma. Yes, they're the features of life.
But god, I hope you're leading a better life.
Is that constant pain still there? That one that hasn't seemed to have left your chest for so long?
God, I hope it's not.
Do you look in the mirror everyday, and like the person staring back? Are you confident?
God, I hope you are.
Do you cry a lot? Better yet, do you cry as much as you used to? And when you do cry, are they happy tears?
God, I hope they are.
Have you found someone to love you just as you love them? Do they treat you right?
God, I hope they're great.
Do you still write? If so, do you ever write about positivity?
God, I hope you do.
Are you still kind? Do you smile always?
God, I hope it's genuine.

Birthday Thoughts

It's been more than half a year since you left this earth and I still can't get used to the fact that you're gone. I wanted to call you today to wish you happy birthday and even though I knew it was impossible it still stuck in my mind. I would have visited your body but I'm far away. Someone once told me that when she misses her relatives who have gone off she sits and lights a candle because they can be with you even in your thoughts. I didn't have time to light a candle as I worked all day so I guess I'm just going to have to comfort myself with the fact that you are around and know how much I miss you. I hope you are happy up there. I love you!

Kiev

Last weekend we went to Kiev, Ukraine, for 3 days to sight see. It was a really fun weekend and Kiev was actually a lot prettier than I expected it to be.

Sziget + Sum 41

Hungary is pretty well known for its many festivals during the summer, the most famous is the Sziget Festival. This year Sum 41 was playing and I got free ticket for that day. It has been my dream to see them, and, as I wrote a few years back, I even had a ticket to see them but the concert got cancelled. This year thankfully it didn't and I had one of the most amazing days ever.
